How do I fix the heater on my 2001 kia sephia?

I have a 2001 kia sephia (the previous owners beat on this car BADLY) and the heater does not work, neither does the A/C, When you turn the knobs, the heat does absolutely nothing. the previous owners ripped the dash off to put in a CD player (morons) and I think they completely disassembled the wiring. Where should I start, and what are the potential possibilities? mechanics all tell me they wouldn't even know where to begin to fix it. so who could I take it to for this particular problem All help is appreciated!

I have a 2008 kia sedona everytime i start my van, my radio is reset, could it be the battery?

Today i had my van doors open a long time maybe 3 hrs. I noticed that when I started my van my radio had reset itself as if i had disconnected the radio from the battery. I took it to auto zone and had the battery checked, one guy said it was the battery while another said the alternator he also s said that the car would probably not start ,because the voltage reading was kind of low, but it did, so i just drove home, but then the battery light came on alone with the brake light, but once i turned the air off, both lights went off and stayed off, so when i got home i did the test where the car is in park and you gradually accelerate to see if there is any surges or dimness to the lights but nothing happened ..so do you think it is the battery or alternator..hoping battery because no one has a alternator but the dealer and i live at least 45 miles from the nearest one.Oh i forgot to mention that my wife said that sometimes when she is driving she notices a slight dimness in the dash lighting and then it goes back to normal, the van has never hesitated to start. Does Kia make a good car?

My dad keeps telling me how great they are. he has one. Not sure it would be a good idea. I want a large SUV and they have the Borrego or whatever it is called. My husband is like "it looks nice but it is a kia". Do they have a bad rap or something? I want a reliable car that does not fall apart, that can tow a boat, and put two big chocolate labs in the back. I currently have a Jeep commander but we have had SO many issues with it (things just falling apart right and left after just 3 years old, with only 47k miles) but I need something larger like that. What would you suggest?

Manual changing gears on an automatic car?

I'm not too car savvy, and I have a kia sportage, I'd say 2008. It is manual transmission ( p, d, n, r) but It has a + - next to D, which is for switching gears. Would It be harmful for the car over time to switch gears manually ( Since there is no clutch or what ever it may be? )

College student trying to buy first car?

I'm still deciding on what my first car should be. At first it was between the Kia Forte and the Ford Focus. After I posted that question I deciding to axe the Kia Forte. Now I'm considering the Hyundai Elantra either 2007 or 2008 model. My question is between the Ford Focus (2008 or 2009) or Hyundai Elantra (2007 or 2008) which one is better on fuel, maintenance and safety?
